Initially, Buddhism remained one of the many small sects in
India. The main breakthrough came when King Asoka (ca. 270-232
BCE) converted to Buddhism. He did not make it a state religion,
but supported all ethical religions. He organised the spreading
of Buddhism throughout India, but also beyond; most importantly
to Shri Lanka.
The doctrine or philosophy declared by the Buddha is known as
Buddhism. It is not a religion or a system of faith or worship.
Buddhism starts from the point of reasoning or understanding.
It does not advocate any prescribed system of ritual and worship
or supplication of deities or gods. It is distinguished and
different from other systems of "religion." Buddhist Tours India offers Tours to Buddhist destinations
